Google updates to HTTPS
Google updates to HTTPS

Google are now going to give preference to websites with the prefix HTTPS.

This means those with just the prefix HTTP will be demoted in search rankings and will be branded as not secure websites.

The difference between the 2 types of prefix it is simple  to explain:

(HTTP) Hyper Text Transfer Protocol sends and receives packets of data unencrypted.

With (HTTPS) Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure, the computers agree on a "code" between them, and then they scramble the messages using that "code" so that no one in between can read them. This keeps your information safe from hackers.

Essentially Google want to make it more difficult for hackers and others to steal data and sensitive information. To update a site to HTTPS is a simple process which involves buying an online certificate, then inputting that information and code into your website.

At Bextec we can do this quickly and ensure your hard work is not put to waste and your website demoted and branded as unsafe by Google. Unfortunately as with everything there is a price, the labour involved in putting some new computer code in your site and purchase of the certificate comes to £50+vat per year. This is a small price to pay for your customers peace of mind and maintaining a good Google ranking.
